Malaysia has expressed support for the “Green Sprout” campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Environment, which focuses on tree planting and seedling distribution.
The commitment was conveyed by H.E. Shaharuddin Onn, Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia, during his visit to the Ministry of Environment’s regional tree nursery in O’Reang Ov district, Thbong Khmum province, on Aug. 30.
H.E. Shaharuddin Onn commended the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Environment for their efforts in expanding regional nurseries, particularly their sustainable management practices and use of solar-powered irrigation systems.
The Ambassador highlighted the strong cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia, affirming Malaysia’s readiness to share expertise and resources to support Cambodia’s environmental sector, especially in tree planting. He further reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening joint environmental initiatives and enhancing technical knowledge exchange for large-scale reforestation projects.
For his part, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, expressed appreciation to the Malaysian Ambassador for his visit to the regional tree nursery, which contributes to the ministry’s nationwide tree planting efforts.
He stressed that the initiative is part of the “Chakra Strategy on Environment,” designed to promote environmental protection and sustainable development, aiming to achieve a green economy and carbon neutrality by 2050. The “Green Sprout” campaign, he underlined, seeks to encourage public participation in tree planting, increase forest cover, and contribute to Cambodia’s long-term environmental goals.
