A Cambodian National Assembly delegation, led by Her Excellency Lork Kheng, Chairwoman of the National Assembly’s Commission on Health, Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth Rehabilitation, Vocational Training and Women’s Affairs (Commission 8) and Vice-President of the Cambodian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (CAPPD), participated in the 2025 Regional Conference of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) in Manila.
Held on September 3, the conference, themed “Advancing the Implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” served as a crucial platform for participants to exchange experiences and discuss challenges in implementing the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action (ICPD PoA).
It also aimed to reaffirm the commitment of parliamentarians to actively collaborate with their governments to achieve both the ICPD goals and the 2030 Agenda.
During the conference, H.E. Seng Nhak, a Member of Commission 8 and an Executive Committee Member of CAPPD, delivered a presentation on youth and policies for a sustainable future. He underscored Cambodia’s efforts in formulating and promoting youth-responsive policies, highlighting that approximately 63 percent of the country’s population is under the age of 35.
The AFPPD Regional Conference convened around 70 participants, including parliamentarians from approximately 30 member countries spanning South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as representatives from various partner organizations.
