Cambodia Expects Fruitful Results from 2nd Special GBC Meeting in Kuala Lumpur


A high-level delegation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), led by H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this morning to attend the 2nd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), scheduled for Oct. 23.

In a post on his social media platform on Wednesday, H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha expressed optimism about the forthcoming meeting, saying that Cambodia strongly anticipates that both sides will be able to discuss in a friendly and constructive environment with a high sense of good faith on priority issues, while strictly adhering to the spirit of previous agreements; in particular, the removal of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment, which shall be implemented under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

Concerning other matters, he added, such as humanitarian demining, the cooperation to prevent and combat transnational crimes, which include online scams, it is anticipated that the discussions between both parties will yield positive results.

“In this spirit, Cambodia firmly believes that the 2nd Special GBC Meeting will yield fruitful outcomes and contribute to promoting peace, cooperation, development, and the swift return to normalcy,” H.E. Gen. Tea Seiha underlined.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, following the conclusion of the 2nd Special GBC Meeting, Cambodia’s 4th and 5th Military Regions will continue discussions with their Thai counterparts to convene respective Regional Border Committee (RBC) meetings. These will build on the GBC outcomes to strengthen cooperation, ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, and advance peace and stability along the border.
