Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met on Wednesday with Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly of the French Republic, on the sidelines of the 8th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum in Paris, France.
During the meeting, Samdech Sudary briefed her counterpart on the recent Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement, signed by the Prime Ministers of both countries on Oct. 26, 2025 during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, in the presence of the ASEAN Chair and the President of the United States.
“Cambodia is a peace-loving nation,” Samdech Khuon Sudary affirmed. “The recently signed Cambodia–Thailand Peace Agreement is of great significance. Cambodia does not wish to see war or conflict, as our nation has tremendously suffered from decades of war.”
Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed sincere appreciation to France for its continued support, particularly through technical assistance including the provision of border maps. The Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1904 and 1907 serve as legal framework in border demarcation.
In terms of bilateral parliamentary cooperation, she highlighted the ongoing Digital Parliament Project, supported by France, which has made remarkable progress in modernising Cambodia’s legislature and advancing its transformation toward a full-fledged E-Parliament.
She emphasised that the digital transformation of the National Assembly plays a vital role in improving public services, strengthening transparency and accountability, and promoting good governance.
Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet congratulated Cambodia on achieving peace deal with Thailand which is important step towards restoring peace and normalcy between the two countries.
She praised Cambodia’s active role in preparing to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026. She informed that the French National Assembly has established a working group to help ensure the success of the summit, emphasising that “Francophonie does not belong to any single country, but to all its members collectively.”
She added that the Francophonie community must continue to work closely together to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including education, culture, economy, tourism, environment, in the spirit of cooperation and partnership.
Before concluding, Samdech Khuon Sudary extended a cordial invitation to Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet to lead a French National Assembly delegation on an official visit to Cambodia, with the aim of further strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two legislatures and the two nations.
