IndiGo Launches First-Ever Flight to Siem Reap

Indian airline IndiGo launched today its first ever flight from Kolkata to Cambodia’s cultural province of Siem Reap, making the first ever India airlines operate flights between Cambodia and India.

The greeting ceremony was held at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport with high-ranking officials from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), the Ministry of Tourism, and travel agents, as well as experts from relevant ministries and institutions.

As scheduled, Indigo (6E) operates direct flights between Kolkata (CCU) and Siem Reap (SAI) three times a week, every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

This direct route reflects the growing travel demand between the two countries, said H.E. Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson at the SSCA.

“We are confident that this new flight service will help boost tourism and open up new opportunities for cultural exchange and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as broaden Cambodia’s horizons, strengthen closer diplomatic ties between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Republic of India,” he stressed.

“The new route will not only increase international connectivity in Kolkata, but also provide convenient connectivity from other parts of India to Cambodia,” he added.

This direct flight route highlighted the success of the Cambodian SSCA in collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions in its mission to expand the Kingdom’s air connectivity.

SSCA officials have been in dialogue with major international carriers, including IndiGo, to leverage existing Air Service Agreements and simplify procedures for launching new routes.

Currently, the national flag carrier Air Cambodia operates flights between Phnom Penh (KTI) and New Delhi (DEL) twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday.
