Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, this morning met with H.E. General Tan Sri Hj Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar, Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysia, and his delegation for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Peace Palace.
During the high-level meeting, the Chief of Defence Forces expressed his commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability. He lauded Cambodia’s cooperation in facilitating the work of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) during its previous deployment.
H.E. General Nizam underscored the paramount importance of human life and peace, reaffirming his personal commitment to contributing to peace efforts between the two countries involved. He further pledged to execute his coordination role with strict neutrality and professionalism in support of peace and stability.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed the Malaysian delegation and highly commended Malaysia’s constructive and facilitating role in regional peace efforts. He specifically praised the leadership of Malaysian Prime Minister H.E. Anwar Ibrahim for helping broker the ceasefire announced on July 28, 2025, and for facilitating the signing of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Declaration in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, 2025.
The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to H.E. General Nizam for his active role in directing and coordinating the AOT, ensuring compliance with the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, the spirit of the General Border Committee (GBC) meetings, and the provisions of the Joint Declaration.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet then briefed the Chief of Defence Forces on the current border situation and recent developments, reaffirming Cambodia’s firm commitment to resolving the matter peacefully. This approach, he noted, aligns with the Joint Declaration, international law, and existing bilateral agreements, conventions, and treaties.
H.E. General Nizam reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to continue its facilitation efforts and ensure full compliance with the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, the outcomes and spirit of the GBC meetings, and the full implementation of the Joint Declaration signed in Kuala Lumpur.
