China Provides Mine Clearance Assistance for Cambodia

The Government of the People’s Republic of China has provided humanitarian mine action equipment to Cambodia through the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA).

The handover ceremony was held in Phnom Penh on January 8 under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of CMAA, and H.E. Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia.

The assistance package includes metal detectors, essential tools and equipment, as well as vehicles to support mine clearance operations.

Addressing the ceremony, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch said that China’s assistance goes beyond providing operational equipment, describing it as a vital means of protection that offers hope and transforms lives.

He emphasised that the equipment will enhance the safety and efficiency of deminers as they carry out their noble mission to free Cambodian land from the lingering legacy of war.

On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch expressed sincere gratitude to China for its continued support – materially, financially, and technically – as well as for its contributions to capacity building, risk education, and victim assistance.

“Through this support, countless lives have been protected, communities restored, and survivors empowered to rebuild their futures with dignity,” the CMAA First Vice President underlined.
