H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, received a courtesy call and held working discussions with a delegation from the Hearts of Gold organisation, led by its President, Ms. Arimori Yuko, here on Feb. 2.
On the occasion, Ms. Arimori Yuko expressed her pride in the long-term cooperation between Hearts of Gold and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport since 2006, which has yielded many achievements, particularly in developing curricula and guidebooks for physical education teachers at all levels.
She also briefed the Minister on the progress of the four-year bachelor’s degree training project at the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports (NIPES), and introduced the new “Inclusive Physical Education Mainstreaming Project,” supported by the ASICS Foundation, which aims to integrate physical education for people with disabilities into the mainstream system.
Ms. Arimori Yuko expressed strong hope that these initiatives will continue to improve the well-being and capacity of Cambodian youth.
For his part, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron conveyed his profound gratitude to the Hearts of Gold for its long-standing support to Cambodia’s sports sector, from encouraging people with disabilities to participate in running, contributing to the successful hosting of the SEA Games by Cambodia.
Regarding sports sector reform, he highlighted Cambodia’s progress in modernising sports infrastructure and upgrading stadiums to support both national and international competitions.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved by NIPES and highly valued the development of soft infrastructure, particularly curriculum modernisation and the integration of ICT systems at the four-year bachelor’s degree level, to ensure the quality of physical education teacher training meets regional standards.
The Ministry, he added, will continue to provide technical guidance and policy support to ensure the successful implementation of the undergraduate training programme and the newly launched Inclusive Physical Education project in line with established directions.
