PM Orders Strict Action in Deadly Hit-and-Run, Urges Road Safety

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called for strict legal action in a deadly hit-and-run accident that killed six people in Battambang province, while urging the public to strictly observe traffic laws.

In a message posted on social media on Tuesday morning, the Premier reiterated that reckless driving, particularly under the influence of alcohol, must be met with the toughest legal penalties without exception.

The statement followed a tragic road accident on the night of Mar. 27 in Maung Russey district, in which six people – including an unborn child – lost their lives after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

Expressing condolences to the victims’ families, Samdech Thipadei also addressed public concerns that the perpetrator might evade justice due to alleged connections to officials.

He said he had instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice H.E. Koeut Rith, along with National Police Chief H.E. Sar Thet, to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the driver responsible, and strictly enforce the law to ensure justice for the victims.

The Prime Minister also called on citizens to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic regulations, especially during the upcoming Khmer New Year holiday, when travel is expected to increase.

He further instructed municipal and provincial authorities, as well as relevant forces, to strengthen road safety enforcement to prevent accidents during the festive period.
