The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has lodged another strong protest against Thailand’s continued violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
According to a press release issued this morning by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Aug. 22 and 24, Thai armed forces dispatched heavy machinery into Cambodian territory to construct an earthen trench in the Chouk Krous area of Thmor Daun village, Kork Morn commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
The RGC said the activity occurred in conjunction with the unauthorised visit by the Prime Minister of Thailand to the An Seh area in Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province on Aug. 23.
The Royal Government strongly protested the activities, describing them as clear violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on June 14, 2000, and Item I on de-escalation measures of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on Dec. 27, 2025.
Cambodia reiterated that it does not accept any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand.
It also stressed that the activities in question would not prejudice the legal rights or position of the Kingdom of Cambodia regarding its international boundary.
The Royal Government demanded that Thailand cease such activities in the above-mentioned areas, as well as in any other areas unlawfully occupied by Thai armed forces since last year.
Cambodia said such measures are necessary to de-escalate the situation, foster mutual trust, facilitate the peaceful settlement of disputes, and restore peace, stability and good-neighbourly relations along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The Royal Government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all its neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means and in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements.
At the same time, Cambodia reiterated its principled position that international borders must not be changed by force.
