Samdech Hun Sen Reaffirms China’s Role In Cambodia

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning reaffirmed the role of China in the country after some milieus said that Cambodia has been under China’s control.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Cambodia-China Friendship Thbong Khmum Hospital in Thbong Khmum province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia will not allow China to control the country.

“I’ve rebuilt the country [until the current development], but some opinions said I’d brought China to control Cambodia. So from here, I would like to clarify and you need to understand clearly that first, the Khmers will not agree to let China control ourselves. I make this confirmation in front of the Chinese ambassador and all Chinese friends. Second, China doesn’t want to control the Khmers either, because according to its foreign policy, China doesn’t want to control any country. China just wants to be friend with other nations in the world,” he underlined.

“Which country wants to be under others’ control?” asked Samdech Techo Hun Sen. “I know clearly China’s policy, i.e. not to control any country. China wants only to own protect its independence and sovereignty.”

The Cambodian Premier thus reiterated Cambodia’s irreversible stance to support the One China policy and to continue expanding cooperation with China.
