An exhibition has been launched at Tuol Sleng or S21 Genocide Museum by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Ms. Phoeurng Sackona.
Addressing the launch recently, H.E. Ms. Phoeurng Sackona highlighted that the exhibition themed “40 Years Remembering the Victims of S-21” aims to raise awareness about the victims who passed away in the S-21 prison under the Khmer Rouge regime.
“This exhibition will allow visitors remembering the victims of S-21 who had been imprisoned, tortured and killed with unjust ground,” she said.
According to Ms. Phoeurng Sackona, there were about 20,000 victims killed at S-21 during the dark period of Cambodian history.
Formerly, S-21 prison was a High School called Tuol Svay Prey. When Khmer Rouge took power, they transformed the school into a centre to detain, torture, interrogate and kill those they suspected.
Kaing Guek Eav, widely known as Duch, the director of the Khmer Rouge’s S-21, was sentenced by the Supreme Court Chamber to life imprisonment on February 03 2012.
