Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said here this morning that the administration of the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for all the Cambodian people in order to build a stronger herd immunity.
“I appeal to all compatriots and other concerned parties to do their best so that the Cambodian people can have at least three doses of COVID-19 vaccines. This is mandatory,” the Premier said at the official handover-receiving ceremony of Italy-donated 1,056,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine at the Peace Palace.
Some 93 percent of the total population of 16 million have so far received the basic doses, but only more than 8 million have got the 3rd jab, while over 6 million others not yet, and more than 1 million have obtained the 4th shot, he pointed out.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also called on all concerned local experts to check the possibility to lift the mandatory mask wearing in public spaces, except closed-door areas such as workplace in order to reduce each household’s spending on masks, but safety distancing and hand cleaning requirements remain.
According to the Prime Minister, Cambodia has currently around 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in stock, and expects to receive over 20 million more doses committed by friendly countries.
On April 10, 2022, the Royal Governement announced to allow people in the provinces of Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear to make their own decision whether or not to wear mask, i.e. mask wearing is no longer required in the four provinces.
