ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2022 Kicks Off


The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2022 kicked off this morning under chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Chair of ASEAN for 2022.

“Under the theme: ‘ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together’, I am pleased to note that today’s event has attracted attention and participation from important individuals who will provide good recommendations as inputs for setting priority tasks as well important measures to overcome the challenges that we are all facing,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said in his opening speech this morning.

This event was held with the aim to accelerate and coordinate the joint efforts of ASEAN to deepen economic integration and to promote inclusive, competitive, resilient, and equitable recovery after the COVID-19 crisis, he added.

“In fact, we all need to cooperate to ensure that ASEAN continues to be an attractive and dynamic region for trade and investment,” the Premier said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said for nearly three years, ASEAN relentlessly worked together to implement policy measures and initiatives to address the COVID-19 crisis and mitigate its impacts on the socio-economy, and especially implemented the “ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework” (ACRF) to promote the development of the digital sector in ASEAN and continue to improve business and investment environment as well as trade facilitation to accelerate the recovery in the post COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the assessment and forecast by ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), ASEAN’s economy is recovering, achieving economic growth rate of 3.1 percent in 2021 along with expected growth rate of 5.3 percent and 4.9 percent in 2022 and 2023 respectively, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined.

The ABIS 2022 features four discussions by experts from ASEAN countries and their dialogue partners on topics: ASEAN Geopolitics and Economy, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement and Investment in ASEAN, Preparing for Digital ASEAN, and a Greener and More Sustainable ASEAN.
