Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Project Enters Framework Agreement

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and Chinese Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) have reached the framework agreement on the construction of an expressway connecting Phnom Penh capital to Bavet city of Svay Rieng southeastern province.

The signing ceremony took place here on Nov. 10 between H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of MPWT and a senior representative of Chinese firm.

Speaking at the ceremony, H.E. Sun Chanthol said that the 138-kilometre-long Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway project would cost some US$1.6 billion.

The construction is set to break ground next year and would take four years to complete, he added.

The construction of the second expressway is important in facilitating and improving people travel and goods transport, he stressed.

The Kingdom’s US$2-billion-worth first expressway, stretching over 189 kilometres from Phnom Penh capital to the deep seaport in the province of Preah Sihanouk was put into use on a trial basis in October.
