The Ministry of Environment and the Government of Japan have pledged to continue cooperation on the environment, especially environmental protection and response to climate change.
The pledge was made in a meeting between H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and H.E. Ueno Atsushi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, here in Phnom Penh on Sept. 6.
The Japanese ambassador informed the minister that Japan fully supports the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, which fosters environmental sustainability and preparedness to respond to climate change and promotes a green economy.
H.E. Ueno Atsushi also updated the minister on the grants for the implementation of Japan’s Marine Plastic Waste Prevention Project in Cambodia through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
H.E. Eang Sophalleth deeply appreciated the good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, especially through the Ministry of Environment.
The minister also underlined the ministry’s priorities on urban and rural waste management, reducing the use of plastic bags, using renewable resources, planting trees to increase forest cover, and improving the livelihoods of communities in protected areas.
