Japanese Company Interested in Barley Farming in Cambodia

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries welcomed a Japanese company that considers farming barley in Cambodia for export to Japan.

H.E. Dith Tina, the minister, voiced his support in his meeting on Sept. 19 with a delegation of Nishida Barley Processing Co., Ltd. at the ministry.

He added that Cambodia’s priority for agriculture is to promote potential crops with existing markets in order to improve farmers’ incomes and livelihoods.

Cambodia has its strengths, especially at the production and cultivation stages, so it needs investment in high-value-added processing steps.

The minister suggested to the Japanese company that to effectively attract Cambodian farmers to grow new crops, the company needs to secure a new market and production chain for the long-term sustainability of farming.

The ministry, he emphasised, will be there to support the company.
