PM Encourages Workers to Upgrade Their Capacity

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has encouraged all workers to further upgrade their capacity.

Speaking at a get-together with more than 18,000 workers and employees from 29 factories and enterprises in Kandal Stung district and Takhmao town of Kandal province this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet advised the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to work together with the private sector to widely disseminate the government’s technical skills training programme to the public, as well as the workers.

“Our policy is to train 1.5 million people. This skill training mainly focuses on young people, while workers can also benefit from it to further upgrade their capacity,” he said.

On the occasion, the Premier called for understanding from the employers and asked them to provide opportunity for their workers to attend the training to build their professional capacity.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that in a factory, workers do not have to change their jobs, but they can receive additional training to apply for an upper position.

Under the skills training programme, the trainees from poor households will get an allowance of KHR 280,000 (about US$70) per month.

“We want to teach people how to fish rather than giving them fish,” Samdech Thipadei said.
