Cambodian Top Diplomat Meets Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea held talks here on Mar. 13 with H.E. KOMURA Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The Cambodian DPM expressed sincere thanks for Japan’s tremendous contribution to the peace process in Cambodia and highly valued Japan’s development assistance across the board to Cambodia after decades of devastated civil war which is indispensable contribution for the country to further improve the socio-economic development, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC).

Both sides had also an exchange of views on some regional and international issues of common interests and concerns and reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely bilaterally and multilaterally aiming to preserve peace, security and prosperity in the region and beyond, the source added.

Prior to the meeting, both sides signed the Exchange of Notes and accompanying documents on the extension of a Yen Loan for the amount of JPY 21,104,000,000 (equivalent to approximately US$ 154,000,000) for the implementation of a Regional Hospital Development Project.

“The loan underscores Japan’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s endeavours to foster socio-economic development,” said the MFAIC, stressing that it also contributes to reinforcing the long-lasting ties and close cooperation between the two countries which were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.
