Cambodian Senate President Meets Prominent Indonesian Figures to Boost Bilateral Ties

President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, held separate meetings yesterday with two prominent Indonesian figures during his visit to Jakarta, focusing on enhancing Cambodia–Indonesia relations in trade, investment, and other key areas.

The Indonesian dignitaries included Dato’ Sri Tahir, a member of the Indonesian Presidential Advisory Council and founder of the Mayapada Group, and H.E. Dr. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, Executive President of the Centrist Asia-Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI).

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure in meeting both figures, noting that his relationship with Indonesia’s leadership goes beyond formal diplomacy and plays a role in strengthening ties between the two nations and their people.

Dato’ Sri Tahir showed keen interest in Cambodia’s agro-processing sector and expressed his intention to visit the Kingdom to explore investment opportunities. He made this decision after receiving an in-depth overview of the country’s economic environment from Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

H.E. Dr. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla voiced support for the Cambodian Senate President’s remarks on bilateral cooperation, particularly in the trade sector. He emphasised the importance of facilitating more frequent meetings between Cambodian and Indonesian investors to promote mutual understanding and business partnerships.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, for his part, stated his ambition to see bilateral trade between Cambodia and Indonesia exceed the current volume of US$1 billion.

The discussions also touched on broader economic issues, including the global trade war and its implications for the region.
