Following the ceasefire that came into effect at midnight on July 28, 2025, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, affirmed that Cambodian forces are fully committed to upholding the ceasefire and promoting peace, as agreed upon by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand during their meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia yesterday.
At a press briefing held this morning at around 11:00 a.m., H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata once again rejected claims made by the spokesperson of the Thai ground forces regarding continued clashes, emphasising that Cambodian troops have strictly adhered to the ceasefire orders and agreement since it took effect.
She also shared the outcomes of a meeting between the commanders of Cambodia’s Military Region 5 and Thailand’s Military Region 1, which took place at Kbal Spean village, Sangkat O’Chrov, Poipet City, in Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey province.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, both sides agreed to respect the ceasefire, halt troop deployment, restore communication and information-sharing channels, and seek guidance from their superiors on any unresolved issues. The two parties also signed the minutes of their meeting, which lasted just over ten minutes.
As for the meetings between the commanders of Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Military Region 2, as well as between Cambodia’s Military Region 3 and Thailand’s Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, she noted that no updates on the outcomes had been received at the time of reporting.
In a special meeting hosted by Malaysia and co-organised by the United States of America with the active participation of China on July 28, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai reached a consensus on the following key points:
1- an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, with effect from 24:00 hours (local time) on July 28, 2025. This is a vital first step towards de-escalation and the restoration of peace and security.
2- to convene informal meeting of regional commanders (Regional Military 1 and 2 on the Thai side and Regional Military 4 and 5 of the Cambodian side) at 07:00 hours on July 29 2025, and followed by meeting with the Defence Attaches led by the Chair of ASEAN, if both sides agreed; and
3- to convene a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on August 4, 2025, to be hosted by Cambodia.
