Cambodian Tourism Minister Meets ASEAN Secretary-General


H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, holds talks with ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, in Melaka, Malaysia on Sept. 27, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Retreat and the World Tourism Conference.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the meeting focused on Cambodia’s role and contribution to the development of the ASEAN tourism sector to date, promoting sustainable tourism development, enhancing the capacity of the tourism workforce, and improving the quality of tourism in the region.

The Minister emphasised that peace, political stability, security, and order are the crucial foundations for development in all sectors, with the tourism sector being a vital backbone of the national economy.

Regarding cooperation in the tourism sector, in response to Cambodia’s request, the ASEAN Secretariat confirmed its commitment to close cooperation and support for Cambodia in preparing several key initiatives for the tourism sector, focusing on ASEAN guidelines related to digital literacy in tourism sector, Green tourism businesses, ASEAN tourism green fund, guidelines on hygiene and safety, and engaging ASEAN External Partners in promoting sustainable and responsible tourism.
