Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, H.E. Huot Hak, has announced the Ministry’s full support for a major documentary production by TV5 Monde, the global Francophone television network.
The film will spotlight Cambodia’s remarkable socio-economic progress and its vast, untapped tourism potential for an international audience.
The commitment was solidified during a high-level meeting here on Nov. 16 with acclaimed French journalists and producers, Michaël Darmon and Yves Derai.
TV5 Monde, one of the world’s largest French-language broadcasters, reaches an estimated over 421 million households across more than 200 territories.
Minister Huot Hak lauded the documentary as a project of profound significance, stating it will offer a valuable window into modern Cambodia for global viewers. He emphasised that the film will showcase the nation’s rich tapestry of cultural heritage, diverse tourism offerings, and iconic landscapes, such as the majestic confluence of the Four Rivers in Phnom Penh.
“The genuine warmth and hospitality of the Cambodian people, symbolised by our renowned ‘Cambodian Smile,’ are our greatest asset,” said Minister Huot Hak. “This documentary arrives at a pivotal moment, allowing us to present a nation that is not only steeped in history but is also a dynamic, peaceful, and secure destination experiencing robust growth across all sectors.”
The Minister commended the initiative of Messrs. Darmon and Derai, recognising their commitment to producing a documentary of the highest international standard. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Tourism’s dedication to providing comprehensive support to ensure the production accurately and compellingly captures Cambodia’s rising profile as a premier investment and travel destination.
The producers confirmed that the documentary is slated for broadcast in conjunction with the 20th Summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), which Cambodia will host in Siem Reap in November 2026. This timing is expected to significantly amplify the film’s impact, presenting Cambodia’s story of development and cultural vitality to a global Francophone audience.
