The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) has approved an emergency donation of food and water for families displaced by recent hostilities and sheltering in Battambang province.
CRC President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen authorised the provision of 20 tonnes of rice, along with 200 cases each of drinking water and soft drinks, to its provincial branch for distribution, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.
The aid for Battambang follows a larger nationwide package announced on Dec. 22, which allocated 100 tonnes of rice, 1,000 cases of water and 1,000 cases of soft drinks to five other provinces: Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Pursat and Banteay Meanchey.
The CRC, whose Honorary President is Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, expressed “deepest gratitude” to donors for their continued contributions of supplies and funds for displaced people in safety camps across Cambodia.
