Cambodian Red Cross Teams Visit Wounded Soldiers in Phnom Penh Hospitals

Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) teams have continued visits to wounded soldiers receiving treatment at five national hospitals in Phnom Penh, following instructions from CRC President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, officials said.

Three CRC teams on Jan. 7 delivered humanitarian assistance and conveyed messages of encouragement to heroic soldiers undergoing medical care at Calmette Hospital, Preah Ang Duong Hospital, Preah Ket Mealea Hospital, the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital and the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital.

CRC officials said the visits reflected the continued concern of the CRC leadership for the welfare of wounded troops and their families, noting that Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen regularly conducts hospital visits and instructs officials to maintain close follow-up with veterans receiving treatment in Phnom Penh and several provinces.

During the visits, CRC teams conveyed messages of sympathy and encouragement from His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Honorary President of the Cambodian Red Cross, as well as from Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen, praising the veterans’ bravery and sacrifices in defending the nation and wishing them a swift recovery and reunion with their families.

Separately, CRC officials said Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen recently donated US$210,000 to the National Committee for Disaster Management to purchase tents for displaced people sheltering at safety centres.

She has also provided rice, drinking water, beverages, mosquito nets and blankets to CRC branches in six provinces – Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Pursat, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey – to support displaced families affected by ongoing security concerns.
