A National Training on the National Water Resources Data Management Centre, the Water Resources Information System, and the Irrigation Infrastructure Management System officially commenced in Phnom Penh this morning.
The event, held from Jan. 26 to 30, 2026 at the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel, was opened by H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology. Attendees included Ms. Yasmin Siddiqi, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Cambodia, her delegation, and representatives from relevant ministries and development partners.
Approximately 150 participants from capital and provincial Departments of Water Resources and Meteorology were also in attendance.
H.E. Thor Chetha emphasised that the establishment of the National Water Resources Data Management Centre is a significant step by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Royal Government of Cambodia toward digital government.
He noted that the Centre serves as a central hub for managing, analysing, and sharing data related to water resources, meteorology, and irrigation. It also contributes to effective disaster prevention and mitigation and strengthens national and international cooperation in hydrology, meteorology, and climate.
H.E. Minister also expressed a strong confidence that these systems will enhance national capacity in water resources management, climate change response, and sustainable development.
He further noted that the five-day seminar, aims to: (1) raise awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the National Water Resources Data Management Centre; (2) present the architecture and operation of the Water Resources Information System and the Irrigation Infrastructure Management System; and (3) build participants’ practical capacity through hands-on use of the systems for effective daily operations.
