Cambodia and Vietnam Reaffirm ‘Long-Standing’ Ties During High-Level Delegation Visit

Samdech Kitti Sangahapundit Men Sam An, President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland, on Sunday characterised the relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam as a “valuable asset” that must be preserved for future generations.

During an official visit to Vietnam’s Ninh Binh province on Mar. 22, Samdech Men Sam An met with H.E. Tran Huy Tuan, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee for Ninh Binh. The two leaders emphasised the deep-rooted traditional friendship and the strategic importance of continued cooperation between the neighbouring Southeast Asian nations.

“Cambodia and Vietnam are good neighbours with long-standing and close relations,” Samdech Men Sam An said. “This traditional friendship is a precious treasure that continues to be maintained and developed by many generations to come.”

The Cambodian delegation head expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Ninh Binh and congratulated the province on its recent socio-economic development. She noted that Vietnam’s administrative reforms serve as significant case studies for Cambodia’s own governance initiatives.

Furthermore, Samdech Men Sam An lauded Vietnam’s developmental achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, led by General Secretary H.E. To Lam. She stressed that the front organisations of both nations will continue to prioritise education and outreach to ensure that younger generations understand the importance of maintaining a sustainable bilateral bond.

For his part, H.E. Tran Huy Tuan shared insights into the recent administrative restructuring of the region.

Effective July 1, 2025, the new Ninh Binh province was formed through the merger of Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, and Nam Dinh provinces. He highlighted the province’s strategic position along the North-South economic corridor and its potential for sustainable development through its diverse natural resources and landscapes.

H.E. Tran Huy Tuan reaffirmed that the two peoples have historically supported each other with “sincerity” during their respective struggles for independence and national development.

He added that the authorities and people of Ninh Binh remain committed to deepening solidarity and enhancing the effectiveness of the Cambodia-Vietnam partnership.
