Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Receives UN Delegation

H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, received here on April 6 a courtesy call from UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia Ms. Vladanka Andreeva and a delegation representing the World Food Programme (WFP), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

H.E. Minister congratulated Ms. Andreeva on her appointment and expressed high regard for the UN’s active support in disaster risk management, social protection, and climate-resilient nutrition.

The meeting served to reinforce the longstanding partnership between Cambodia and the United Nations, highlighting a shared commitment to humanitarian efforts and sustainable development across the region.

He also briefed the delegation on the Ministry’s strategic priorities for water security, including the modernisation of irrigation systems, the strengthening of meteorological services, and the enhancement of human resource capacities.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to expand cooperation, noting successful ongoing collaborations such as the Early Warnings for All (EW4ALL) roadmap with the WFP and the IFAD-funded Climate Adaptation and Irrigation Sustainability for Agriculture Resilience (CAISAR) project.

These initiatives underscore the Ministry’s focus on developing legal frameworks and infrastructure to build a climate-resilient agricultural sector.
