Cambodia, Vietnam Pledge to Deepen Strategic Ties


Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, received here on April 10 visiting H.E. Tran Cam Tu, Member of the Politburo and Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for a courtesy call and working discussion.

The meeting was held in the spirit of further strengthening the longstanding friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam, founded on good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability.

During the talks, both sides exchanged views on identifying new practical mechanisms to expand bilateral trade and investment, with a shared target of reaching US$20 billion in the coming years.

They also discussed plans to jointly organise activities marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam in 2027.

Samdech Khuon Sudary spoke highly of the bilateral relationship, describing it as deeply rooted and resilient, with people-centred interests at its core. She congratulated Vietnam on the successful outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam held in January 2026.

Samdech also welcomed the increasing representation of women in the Vietnamese National Assembly, which now exceeds 35 percent, reflecting strong commitment to gender equality.

At the same time, she highlighted Vietnam’s robust economic momentum under the leadership of Party General Secretary and State President H.E. To Lam, expressing confidence that the country will achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2045.

Regarding Cambodia’s domestic situation, Samdech Khuon Sudary affirmed that the country is on the right path toward building a resilient, unified, and sustainable economy.

She noted that Cambodia continues to pursue its long-term vision of attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050.

For his part, Tran Cam Tu expressed his sincere thanks for the warm reception and conveyed greetings and best wishes from Party General Secretary and State President H.E. To Lam, as well as other senior Vietnamese leaders, to the Cambodian leadership.

He expressed strong confidence that, under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party, led by Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia will continue to achieve sustained development and prosperity.

The Vietnamese official proposed that both sides continue strengthening political trust through exchanges at all levels, while expanding cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, education, investment, tourism, and border security, including joint efforts to combat transnational crime.

At the parliamentary level, both sides agreed to effectively implement existing memoranda of understanding (MoU), while enhancing information exchange and mutual visits among senior leaders, Commissions, Parliamentary Friendship Groups, Women and Youth Parliamentarians, and officials of the Secretariat-General.

They also agreed to continue sharing experiences in legislative affairs, institutional reform, and parliamentary modernisation toward a digital parliament, contributing to mutual interests and to peace and stability in the region.
