Cambodia, Greece Eye Expanded Cooperation Following Credentials Presentation

Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has expressed hope that the appointment of the new Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic (Greece) to Cambodia would further enhance and deepen relations between the two countries.

According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate, the remarks were made after Samdech Techo Hun Sen received H.E. Ms. Magadalini Nicolaou, newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Cambodia, for a courtesy call and presentation of credentials on Tuesday morning at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace.

During the meeting, Samdech Techo warmly congratulated Ambassador Magadalini Nicolaou, on behalf of His Majesty the King, on her appointment as Greece’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia. He expressed confidence that her diplomatic mission would contribute to further advancing Cambodia-Greece relations.

For her part, Ambassador Nicolaou expressed gratitude to Samdech Techo for the opportunity to present her credentials. She noted that Greece had never previously appointed a female ambassador to Cambodia and said she was honoured to serve in what she described as a beautiful country.

The Ambassador pledged to work actively to further expand bilateral ties between Cambodia and Greece. She also highlighted similarities between the two countries, noting that both possess long histories and rich civilisations and cultural heritage, which she said would be an important area of focus during her diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

Samdech Techo welcomed and agreed with the Ambassador’s observations regarding the historical and cultural similarities between the two nations. He acknowledged that although both Cambodia and Greece have ancient civilisations and rich cultural legacies, Greece is widely regarded as one of the world’s oldest civilisations and home to many great philosophers and scholars.

Samdech Techo also expressed hope that Ambassador Nicolaou’s tenure would help further promote trade, economic cooperation, and other untapped potential between the two countries, while strengthening bilateral ties and mutual support on the international stage.
