Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, together with Japanese Ambassador H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi, presided over here this morning the groundbreaking ceremony of the Project for Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement in Phnom Penh Capital Phase IV.
Phnom Penh Municipal Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng said this US$36-million project was funded by a grant aid from Japan. It will last for 36 months, from Dec. 1, 2018 to Oct. 31, 2021, he added.
H.E. Governor spoke highly of the project, stressing that it will contribute to improving the living environment of some 2 million Phnom Penh residents.
For his part, H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi expressed his conviction that once completed, the project will contribute to promoting Cambodia’s socio-economic development as well as to strengthening the friendship between Cambodia and Japan.
Japan has been supporting the flood protection and drainage improvement project in Phnom Penh capital since the first phase implemented in 2004.
Japan is currently one of the major foreign donors of Cambodia.
