Cambodia-Thailand Friendship Bridge, linking Stung Bot in the Cambodian province of Banteay Meanchey to Ban Nong Ian in the Thai province of Sa Kaeo was inaugurated this morning.
This auspicious event was co-presided over by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), the 620-metre-long and 17-metre-wide bridge has been constructed by Thai engineering team under a grant aid of the Thai government of about US$19 million and a budget of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
The bridge will play a key role in easing the inter-country cargo transportation and reducing traffic congestion at Poipet international checkpoint.
In addition, both Premiers will preside over the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement on cross-border rail transport and handover-receiving ceremony of locomotive (Diesel Multiple Unit). They will also take a train from Klong Luk railway station in Thailand to Poipet railway station in Cambodia.
Beside the above-said events, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian international border gate and of a road linking to National Road No. 5, which marks the opening of new historical page of Cambodia-Thailand relations, especially in terms of cross-border trade.
