On June 3, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, also President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), appealed to all his party’s members to eat Num Banh Chok on June 9.

The call was made in response to an opposition group who had set this day to eat Num Banh Chok for their political motivation.

Patriotic Num Banh Chok is a strategy used by the opposition group as an ideology that all Num Banh Chok eaters are their supporters against the government, therefore Samdech Techo Hun Sen requested all CPP’s members to open a “forum” to eat Num Banh Chok across the nation.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also rejected some comments over the solidarity eating of Num Banchok, stressing that there is no behind the scenes of this movement.

“Some people said this is a step toward political negotiations. Don’t confuse, I talk only about Num Banh Chok and the solidarity as well as national unity through eating Num Banh Chok on June 9”, he said.

Num Banh Chok is a well-known disk in Cambodia. It is often served for breakfast. This rice noodle is eaten with different soups made from fish or chicken or pork or beef with a mix of vegetable.
