Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning alerted his compatriots to the danger of the new COVID variant XBB.1.5 – the most transmissible with the ’recombinant’ new strain of Omicron nicknamed “Kraken”.
Addressing to the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and upgrading of National Road No. 7 in Kampong Cham province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reminded them to keep vigilant of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially of the highly contagious XBB.1.5 variant.
“We really don’t know how the COVID-19 virus will be developed to more new variants, therefore we have to apply the booster doses of COVID vaccine,” he said, reaffirming that there are currently about 7 million doses in stock and 20 more million doses will arrive in Cambodia soon.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Health released on Jan. 8, Cambodia registered 6 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases to 138,628, of which 135,547 have recovered and 3,056 others have died.
