Kampong Thom’s Vegetable and Rice Producers Connected to Buyers

Forty-six (46) agriculture communities in Kampong Thom province have inked contracts to produce and supply timely and quality vegetable and rice paddy to buyers and rice mills respectively.

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina presided over the signing of the contracts on June 27 that will expand and sustain the markets for the vegetable and rice producers.

Kampong Thom Provincial Governor H.E. Nguon Ratanak and the Chief Executive Officer of the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB) H.E. Dr. Kao Thach also attended the event at the province.

H.E. Dith Tina spoke highly of the move and encouraged the agriculture communities to specially pay attention to selecting the best seed varieties with high market demand and organically grow them.

Quality and organic vegetable and rice will sustainably secure high market price both for domestic and export markets, he said, adding that they will contribute to good health of the consumers.

According to H.E. Nguon Ratanak, of the 46 agriculture communities signing the contracts, 40 were rice producers and six were vegetable growers on about 10,000 hectares of land.

Kampong Thom cultivates rice alone on a total of 253,300 hectares with an average yield of about four tonnes per hectare.
