Chinese Ambassador Says Ceasefire and Dialogue Resumption Are Top Priorities

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Wang Wenbin, said that the top priority in the current border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand is achieving a ceasefire and resuming dialogue.

“The top priority now is to achieve a ceasefire at an early date, restart dialogue and resolve the border dispute through peaceful means,” he shared on his Facebook page this morning.

H.E. Wang Wenbin reaffirmed China’s support for ASEAN’s mediation efforts and the important role of its observer team in ceasefire monitoring.

“China is willing to create conditions and provide a platform for dialogue and negotiations between the two parties. It is hoped that Cambodia and Thailand will meet each other halfway, strive to restore mutual trust, and rebuild border peace,” he quoted Mr. Guo Jiakun, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, as saying yesterday at the conclusion of a six-day shuttle-diplomacy trip conducted by Mr. Deng Xijun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs, to Cambodia and Thailand to mediate the recent border conflict.
