Cambodian PM: Journalists Play Important Role for Peace and Democracy


Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has sent a message to all Cambodian journalists and other media practitioners on the World Press Freedom Day 2019 (May 3).

In his message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted their important role in supporting peace and democracy in the Kingdom.

The Premier encouraged all media practitioners to report the truth in the society, make constructive criticism, continue enhancing their capacity and knowledge, and stick to their code of ethics.

In the same message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged all media to combat fake news, especially those that can lead to conflicts, social discrimination, internal division, chaos and so on.

Today, Cambodian journalists from different media organisations and other stakeholders gathered in a ceremony held in Phnom Penh under the presidency of H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information, to mark the World Press Freedom Day 2019.

This year’s commemoration took place under the theme “Media’s potential role in supporting peace and democracy”.
