Cambodia to Continue Strengthening Regular Administrative Documents among Foreigners


The Cambodian authorities will continue to seize all irregular immigration documents, affirmed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng in a dissemination meeting in Phnom Penh this morning.

According to Samdech Sar Kheng, as of July 17, 2019, the immigration police has revoked some 37,441 copies of illegal documents from 20,093 families or 69,871 people of 10 nationalities, most of them are Vietnamese.

The seized documents included Cambodian ID, residential book, family book, etc. he pointed out.

“If we do not seize the irregular administrative documents, those nearly 70,000 foreigners will get Cambodian nationality automatically,” he said, underlining that this is the mistake of competent officials to issue such irregular documents for foreigners and those who hold the invalid documents will face punishment in accordance with the law.”

At the same time, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng announced that the General Department of Immigration had so far received 71,991 requests for accreditation as immigrants from 32,735 families, and 62,531 requests for permanent resident cards from 28,571 families of 11 nationalities.
