Cambodia, Malaysia Laud Flourishing Bilateral Cooperation


Cambodia and Malaysia have lauded current flourishing relations, cooperation, and solidarity both within regional and international frameworks, especially in the context of ASEAN and United Nations now and in the future.

This was the spirit underlined when Samdech Say Chhum, Acting Head of State, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, at the Senate Palace, Phnom Penh yesterday.

Samdech Say Chhum, also President of Senate, expressed warmest welcome for the visit of H.E. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and was optimistic that it will further foster bilateral relations and cooperation, along with visit exchange of leaders and high-raking officials of both countries.

Samdech Say Chhum informed the Malaysian Premier about rapid progress in Cambodia and its strong and stable economic growth – thanks to on-going peace, political stability, security and public order, without political, racial and religious discrimination.

The Acting Head of State thanked the Government of Malaysia for human resource development through scholarship provision to Cambodian officials and students to study in Malaysia, both for short-term and long-term periods.

Samdech Say Chhum also sent regards from His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, to H.E. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

For his side, H.E. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad informed Samdech Say Chhum about fruitful result of his visit in Cambodia, particularly with the signed Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income (DTA), and the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation.

With the move, H.E. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad hoped that it would contribute to further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia, basically in sector of trade, investment, and tourism.
