Senate Approves Three Power Projects

Cambodian Senate has approved unanimously three draft laws on approval of payment warranty of the Royal Government of Cambodia for two private companies on three power projects, which generate cumulatively nearly 1,000 MW.

The approval was made in an extraordinary session held at the Senate Palace this morning under the chairmanship of H.E. Sim Ka, Acting President of Senate, and with the participation of 49 senators.

Two of the three power projects are coal-fired power plants – 700MW power plant is located in Koh Kong province and 265MW power plant in Oddar Meanchey province.

The approved third power project is the investment on power line transmission development from the coal-fired power plant in Oddar Meanchey province to Siem Reap province.

The projects were approved by the National Assembly on Mar. 26.

Report from Ministry of Mines and Energy showed that power supplies rose by 28 percent in 2019 to 3,382MW.
