Samdech Sar Kheng Encourages Census Officials to Further Promote Work Effectiveness


Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, has encouraged census officials to further promote effectiveness in data collection, analysis, and dissemination for general population census of Cambodia 2019.

As said in a news release of Ministry of Interior, Samdech Sar Kheng, also Chairman of National Committee for the General Population Census of Cambodia, made the point while presiding over the official release of Provisional Population Totals for General Population Census of Cambodia 2019, at Phnom Penh Hotel yesterday.

The interior minister laid stress on the significance of general population census for the country, and thus encouraged good coordination and high responsibility among census officials and all stakeholders.

According to the deputy prime minister, the result of General Population Census of Cambodia 2019 will be released by mid-2020.

Primary data by Mar. 3, 2019 showed that de facto population of Cambodia was 15,288,489, of them 7,869,912 are female. The Kingdom’s annual population growth decreased by 1.5 percent from 1998 to 2008, and 1.2 percent from 2008 to 2019.

With 2,129,371 people, Phnom Penh was the most populated location, while the least was Kep province with 41,798 people.

Average household members across the country were 4.6, and its population density was 86 per a square kilometre of land area.
